I would like to welcome you to the Rushmoor Middle Years Department page and hope that you will find this useful and informative.
The Middle Years Department consists of three year groups - namely years 6, 7 and 8. We believe that this is a very important stage in a pupil's education. In the Middle Years we aim to build on the excellent start that is given in the Junior Department and prepare them for the Senior School and future GCSE studies. We would like all pupils to grow in terms of academic progress, social and moral awareness and being a valuable member of our learning community.
The pupils are able to use the facilities, available to the whole school, including the Learning Resources Centre, Music suite, Drama Studio, Design & Technology suite, Information & Communication Technology Suite, Art Room, Food Technology suite, Gymnasium, and the Learning Support Area. These are all situated within easy walking distance, within the school campus.
Parents will regularly be informed of their child's progress with blue card effort and attainment grades being distributed every half term, plus a detailed written report at the end of the Winter and Summer Terms. In addition, there is a Consultation Evening during the Spring Term which provides an opportunity for parents to discuss their child's progress. If any parent feels the need to raise any issues concerning their child's education, they should not hesitate in contacting their son's form teacher, who will be pleased to help them
During the Spring and Summer Terms there are trips to The Frontier Centre (for years 6 and 7) and Blue Peris (year 8). These trips involve an excellent opportunity to experience outdoor education involving activities such as kayaking, archery, mountain biking and abseiling at The Frontier Centre and mountaineering, sea level traversing, rock climbing at Blue Peris.
All pupils are encouraged to develop good habits of independent study and homework is an essential part of this. All subjects are taught by specialist teachers with a full range of subjects including:
Education for Life
Information & Communication Technology
PE & Games
We offer the pupils a wide range of extra-curricular activities and these are outlined on the reverse of the school calendar, which goes out to parents at the beginning of each term. There is also a full list of activities distributed at the beginning of each term to all pupils.
Pupils, throughout the school, are placed in one of three Houses: Randall, Richardson or Owen. Pupils contribute to their House on an individual basis, by earning House points and by taking part in House events, such as Public Speaking and sporting events.
Be assured that the staff will work tirelessly, to ensure that your child's educational experience is positive, challenging, fun and exciting.
Please feel free to email or telephone the school at any time for more information on the Middle Years Department.
