We operate a house system in each school and these have been linked so that competitions can be held across the Alliance too. Pupils are allocated to a House as they join the school and remain in that House throughout. Any siblings are allocated the same House. Pupils earn House points for good work, good behaviour, extra-curricular involvement, etc. Each pupil is personally rewarded for their house points at the end of each term. Bronze, silver and gold badges are awarded, with house points accumulating over the three terms.
A variety of competitive inter-house activities are organised and the Houses organise fund-raising activities to support charities of their choice.
House Captains are selected from the senior year groups.
Junior School Stars of the Week
Each Form Tutor in the Junior Schools at both sites is able to nominate somebody from their class to be the Star of the Week. Names are listed in the Principal’s Blog in order for everybody to celebrate and the pupil receives a certificate.
Teachers may nominate pupils for the Principal’s Award. This could be a fabulous piece of work or showing a great amount of effort. It can even be for something the pupils has achieved outside of school, such as sporting success, volunteering for charity, etc. The pupil receives a badge to wear for the week plus they have their name mentioned in the Principal’s blog, so everybody can hear about their success.
Star Pupil Postcards
During our lockdown experience due to COVID-19, we wanted to add another level of recognition to our awards process. The Principal Awards continued to be emailed home during lockdown, but we added to this by having ‘Star Pupil’ postcards made up, which teachers could nominate pupils for and the Principal personally wrote and posted the cards to the pupils address. This will now form part of our regular awards system.
At the end of the academic year, each site holds an Awards Ceremony. There are numerous awards available throughout all year groups covering everything from sport and the arts through to the sciences, humanities and mathematics. Awards are for effort and perseverance as well as high achievement, so every pupil has the chance to receive a prize. The Awards Ceremonies are a lovely way to finish the summer term and highlight the best qualities our unique schools provide to our pupils.
