8 - 11 May 2012
Following an extended Bank holiday weekend, we all returned to the fold on Tuesday morning.
The year 6 and 7 pupils were fortunate enough to go immediately away again to the Frontier Centre in Rushden. A great week was had by all involving activities such as abseiling, canoeing, mountain biking (yes in Northamptonshire!), climbing and adventure courses. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Randall for his dedication in organising the whole trip for the pupils and the support of Ms Lyons, Mr Walters and Mr Lawes. The boys returned on Friday afternoon absolutely buzzing and full of enthusiasm following a great week of fun and activities. However, I am not convinced that they showered and cleaned themselves as much as they normally do at home!!
Although the week was once again a wet one with cancelled sporting fixtures, we were lucky enough to escape the weather and play our year 9 County Cup semi-final against Queensbury from Dunstable. The game was played at the Swifts ground on Newnham Avenue and I was so impressed with the commitment, skill level and team play of all our players. They played superbly as a team to win the match by 20 points in the end. They are now playing against Wootton Upper School in the final and I am convinced they will put on a great performance once again. I am so proud of their achievements and very impressed with their attitude. Well done boys!
I was fortunate enough to visit the Olympic stadium on Wednesday to witness first-hand the excellent facilities the nation has created for the biggest show on earth. It is just a shame that many pupils will not have tickets for the actual event - myself included. I was particularly impressed with the performances and determination shown by the disabled swimmers and athletes. Their times and distances were outstanding and I left the venue in absolute respect for all those athletes with disabilities and how they overcome adversity to be so successful.
On Monday 14 May I was delighted to receive the formal confirmation that the school has received the prestigious Artsmark Award - congratulations to everyone involved in the process.
